With decades of clinical experience, military leadership, and deep roots in Lake Placid, Dr. Oxer has built a practice focused on long-term relationships, honest care, and helping patients feel more comfortable about their oral health.
Dr. Oxer has practiced dentistry in Lake Placid, Florida for 27 years, helping patients with preventive, restorative, removable, geriatric, and implant dentistry at Sunshine Family Dentistry. His connection to the community goes back even further, having graduated from Lake Placid High School in 1983 before continuing his education at the University of Florida.
He later earned a degree in Agricultural Business Management in 1987 before beginning an entirely different chapter of his professional career through military aviation service.
After graduating from the University of Florida, Dr. Oxer was commissioned into the U.S. Army Aviation program, where he spent eight years flying helicopters in South Korea and teaching military flight operations at Fort Rucker, Alabama.
He completed his military career as a Captain before returning to the University Of Florida College Of Dentistry. In 1999, he earned his dental degree with honors and began the next stage of his professional career serving patients in his hometown community.
Dr. Oxer is a member of the American Dental Association and has achieved both Fellow and Master status within the Academy of General Dentistry. Throughout his career, he has especially enjoyed helping patients restore comfort, confidence, and function through restorative, removable, geriatric, and implant dentistry.
His approach to patient care focuses on long-term oral health, realistic treatment planning, and helping patients feel informed and comfortable throughout the process instead of overwhelmed or pressured during treatment decisions.
Sunshine Family Dentistry is managed by Dr. Oxer and his wife of 34 years, Monique, who work together to help create a welcoming and supportive environment for patients throughout the community.
Their family also includes two children, Tanner and Melina. Tanner serves as a Field Artillery Captain in the U.S. Army, while Melina works as a corporate sales representative in Raleigh, North Carolina. Family, service, and community remain an important part of the practice’s foundation and day-to-day philosophy.
Outside of dentistry, Dr. Oxer enjoys flying, fishing, cattle ranching, golf, and softball. He is also a certified flight instructor for both airplanes and helicopters and has coached numerous youth sports teams over the years.
Those experiences continue reflecting the same values patients often appreciate inside the clinic as well — consistency, patience, communication, and building long-term relationships with people throughout the Lake Placid community.
